Reality Matters

Something fundamental is failing in America. Facts and evidence no longer reliably constrain power. A country increasingly shaped by falsehoods—by loyalty and force over truth—is taking form.

This is how free societies unravel.

Reality has consequences.

You’re Not Imagining This

What feels unsettling now isn’t just disagreement or polarization. It’s the sense that shared reality itself is slipping.

Conversations no longer resolve. Evidence no longer settles disputes.
Power is acting with fewer constraints—and less accountability.

This Didn't Happen By Accident

Shared reality didn’t simply erode on its own. Techniques of distortion were refined and normalized.

Systems evolved that rewarded speed, outrage, and loyalty over accuracy. Distortion now spreads faster than correction—falsehood easier to repeat than truth is to establish.

When Reality Loses Its Grip

When false narratives harden into identity, large groups become unreachable by evidence.

Power operates without correction—elections contested, institutions hollowed, norms broken—not by force alone, but by permission granted through distorted reality.

A Different Kind of Response

The Reality-Based Community turns a passing phrase into a visible presence—a simple counterweight to distortion. It begins with a card—signaling a shared commitment to evidence, accountability, and common standards.

With accumulation and increasing visibility, those commitments begin to change what is expected—and what power can get away with.

This is how reality starts to matter again.
